Sunflower wax is a hard, crystalline and high-melting vegetable wax obtained by winterization of sunflower oil. It consists of very long-chain, saturated C42-C60 esters derived from C20-C32 fatty alcohols and C20-C28 fatty acids.
Sunflower wax serves as a consistency agent in pencils and emulsions (W/O and O/W). It helps to thicken the formulation by forming a rigid structural network of wax crystals that improves oil binding, softness and film formation. It also helps to improve lubricity.
In stick formulations, Sunflower Waximproves hardness, texture, strength and mould release.
Sunflower wax is an alternative to rice bran, carnauba and candelilla waxes in many formulations and a natural alternative to mineral waxes. Sunflower wax has very strong oil-gelling properties at very low wax concentrations. The double refined Sunflower wax has a light-yellow color and low odor.
